Investigating states of matter
After exploring an unknown substance (alka-seltzer), students predict what will happen when it interacts with water in a bottle with a balloon attached, and afterwards work together to explain why.
Students observed, drew and recorded observations of mock rocks. They measured their rock's diameter, circumference, depth and mass. Next, they took apart their rocks and identified the "minerals" inside.
After recording observations of four types of rocks, students used a weak acid (vinegar) to test rocks for calcite. (photos coming soon)
